Slightly to the north of Sami, there is a pretty town of Agia Efimia nestled in a cosy cove. The town is famous for the fact that shooting of the film "Captain Corelli" with starring Nicolas Cage and Penelope Cruz took place there. Due to the popularity of the "Captain Corelli`s Mandolin" book, according to which the film was created, it was decided to shoot the film directly on the island mentioned in the book. Despite the high cost of filming, the producers chose unique incomparable landscapes of Kefalonia instead of search for alternatives. In Agia Efimia, you can taste local dishes at the tavern of Captain Corelli.

Nearby, along the waterfront, there are taverns to suit every taste. Each of them boasts a specialty from the "chef". Not really too attractive to look at, these taverns will surprise you with the excellent taste of home-cooked meals. You can spend good time in any of them, but we liked the Finikas tavern. Popping in for a snack, you will probably spend here at least one and a half hours enjoying the local wine with lamb and Greek salad. On top of a wonderful meal, choose any dessert and ask for a cup of Greek coffee. At this point, you will realize there is happiness in life!
Swirls of numerous yacht masts stretch along the coast making twang under a gust of wind: travellers by yacht love the cove, along which the town is situated. Looking closely, you will find the flags of states from around the world. If you wish, you can rent a pleasure yacht at the local offices.

Agia Efimia is ideal for those who wish to travel over Kefalonia serving as an excellent starting point for voyages. The famous Myrtos beach is only 10 km away and favourite tourist destinations - the Melissani Lake and Drogarati cave - are located very close.

If you ask what to do in the town, we would probably answer - nothing. Relax, indulge yourself with ecologically healthy food and air, swim in the incredibly warm and clear sea, admire the surrounding scenery, and communicate with English, Japanese, Italians or Greeks. Finally, rent a car and go discovering your own Kefalonia! This extraordinary island is revealed to everyone in its own way finding a special corner in our souls to leave its magical memories.
